Our Mascot

Many have asked about the story behind the 4FigLovers mascot. Ask no more. Here’s the skinny on how a glass inuksuk became our mascot.

The 1996 Test For Echo album cover

As a teenager, I was a huge fan of the rock band, Rush. In about 1999, one of my oldest friends (Michael) became the security director for the band and personal assistant to its drummer and lyricist, Neil Peart. I felt it a great privilege when Michael hired me for security detail at Neil’s wedding, where I met the band and eventually became friends with Neil. One of Rush’s album covers (Test for Echo) is of a rock inuksuk. Michael is a very thoughtful and generous gift giver. The glass inuksuk was from him. And I’m proud to have it as the 4FigLovers mascot.

On January 7th, 2020, Neil lost his long battle with brain cancer. I knew it was coming, but it just didn’t sink in until I saw Michael’s post of Neil’s passing on Facebook. Of course, it was a sad day – for many. But it was also a day of reflection.

Most will remember Neil as an excellent drummer. Many will also recognize him as a lyricist whose songs gave Rush its moniker, The Thinking Man’s Band. Some will recall him as a quite good, though somewhat obscure, book author. Others may think of him as a dedicated cyclist. Of course, he was also, among other titles, a loving husband and father.

For me, I have nothing but fond memories of, simply, “Bubba”.
