Description
There are a number of green varieties floating around the US with the Chetoui name, and even at least one black fig. Thierry uses the name “Chetouia”, which our particular Chetoui variety is traced to. Chetoui simply means “winter” in Algeria, where this fig originates. It can be more elongated or squat, depending upon conditions. It has a balanced acidity that is often compared to the Smith fig variety. After growing our mother tree for three years, we are actually ranking it above Smith. It’s more productive, earlier, larger figs, and tastier. Small to tight ostiole. The figs will develop complete sugar spotting on one side when fully ripe. Simply awesome!
